Preventing Lead from Leaching into Water

The Dangers of Acidic Water

Acidic water can do more than corrode the copper pipes in your home.  Low pH water is also hazardous to your health, especially when the corrosion from the acidic water leaches lead into your drinking water!

Safety Zone Water Systems Acid Neutralizers

Safety Zone Water Systems utilizes a calcite to neutralize the free carbon dioxide in your water, rendering the water less corrosive.  Calcite has “self-limiting” properties.  When properly applied, it corrects pH only enough to reach a non-corrosive equilibrium, without over-correcting under normal conditions.  Upon contact with calcite, acidic water slowly dissolves the calcium carbonate, causing the pH to rise, which in turn reduces the potential leaching of copper, lead and other metals found in typical plumbing systems.  Periodic backwashing is necessary to prevent packing, to reclassify the bed and to maintain high service rates.

Recommended Water Testing

Testing your groundwater is highly recommended.  If your water is not actually acidic (i.e. if your pH is not too low), a reverse osmosis drinking water system is usually the best option to reduce lead in drinking water.

This under-sink filtration system removes lead, as well as other harmful contaminants, from your drinking water.

Whole House Systems with Acid Neutralizers

Dome-holed tanks are standard issue for easy replacement of the neutralizing media.
